Quyết định tạm ngừng khai thác bốn sân bay phía Bắc được đưa ra sau cuộc họp do Cục trưởng Cục Hàng không Việt Nam Đinh Việt Thắng chủ trì chiều 5-9 về triển khai phương án phòng chống, ứng phó cơn bão số 3.
Căn cứ thông tin dự báo của Trung tâm Dự báo khí tượng thủy văn quốc gia chiều 5-9 về diễn biến, khả năng ảnh hưởng của bão số 3, các đơn vị ngành hàng không tham gia cuộc họp nhận định đây là cơn bão có cường độ rất mạnh. Bão có khả năng ảnh hưởng và uy hiếp an toàn khai thác tại các sân bay.
Tạm ngừng khai thác bốn sân bay trong ngày 7-9 do ảnh hưởng bão số 3
Qua báo cáo và thảo luận của các đơn vị, Cục trưởng Đinh Việt Thắng đã yêu cầu tạm ngừng khai thác một số sân bay theo giờ địa phương. Cụ thể:
Sân bay Vân Đồn (Quảng Ninh) tạm ngừng khai thác máy bay từ 4h đến 16h ngày 7-9.
Sân bay Cát Bi (Hải Phòng) tạm ngừng khai thác máy bay từ 5h đến 16h ngày 7-9.
Sân bay Nội Bài (Hà Nội) tạm ngừng khai thác máy bay từ 10h đến 19h ngày 7-9.
Sân bay Thọ Xuân (Thanh Hóa) tạm ngừng khai thác máy bay từ 12h đến 22h ngày 7-9.
Cục Hàng không Việt Nam yêu cầu Tổng công ty Quản lý bay Việt Nam có trách nhiệm thông báo tin tức hàng không phù hợp theo quy định hiện hành và điều hành bay đảm bảo tuyệt đối an toàn.
Cảng vụ hàng không miền Bắc được giao trách nhiệm kiểm tra, giám sát việc bảo đảm an toàn khai thác tại các sân bay theo quy định.
Trước đó, trong công điện triển khai phòng chống bão số 3 ban hành ngày 4-9, Bộ Giao thông vận tải chỉ đạo Cục Hàng không căn cứ tình hình diễn biến của bão để xem xét tạm ngừng khai thác tại một số sân bay nằm trong vùng bị ảnh hưởng trực tiếp của bão số 3.

Chiều 5-9, Phó thủ tướng Trần Hồng Hà đã chủ trì cuộc họp chỉ đạo triển khai công tác ứng phó bão số 3, với sự tham gia của lãnh đạo các bộ ngành và 27 tỉnh, thành phố.
