Theo Công an tỉnh Bắc Giang, chiều 1-7, trên đường về quê nghỉ cuối tuần qua huyện Việt Yên, đại úy Nguyễn Xuân Bằng – cán bộ Đội quản lý tài sản và trang cấp, Phòng hậu cần, Công an tỉnh Bắc Giang – thấy người dân hô hoán.
Ngay sau đó, anh đã quay xe và hỏi người dân sự việc đang xảy ra.
Biết một cháu bé bị ngã xuống hồ Dục Quang, đại úy Bằng liền nhảy xuống hồ, lặn tìm em nhỏ trên.
Nhận thấy tình trạng em nhỏ nguy kịch, cơ thể tím tái vì đuối nước, anh nhanh chóng sơ cứu khẩn cấp. Sau đó, cháu bé được chuyển đi cấp cứu tại Bệnh viện Đa khoa tỉnh Bắc Giang.
Đại úy Nguyễn Xuân Bằng cho biết tại hiện trường vụ đuối nước chỉ có một cụ già và hai em nhỏ khác đang kêu cứu. Do tuổi cao, cụ già loay hoay tìm cách cứu người và hô hoán tìm sự giúp đỡ cùng các cháu. Biết hồ nước sâu, song vì tính mạng của người dân, anh Bằng vẫn nhảy xuống nước với hy vọng cứu vớt em nhỏ nhanh nhất.
Qua xác minh ban đầu, em nhỏ bị đuối nước mới 8 tuổi.
Đến ngày 2-7, cháu bé bị đuối nước trên đã được chuyển đến Bệnh viện Nhi trung ương để tiếp tục cấp cứu, điều trị.
Đến sáng và trưa 23-6, thi thể của anh Nguyễn Đình Cường và hai cháu L.T.N., L.M.T. đã được tìm thấy ở hồ Đá Đen thuộc xã Sông Xoài, thị xã Phú Mỹ, tỉnh Bà Rịa – Vũng Tàu. Cả ba bị đuối nước.
